In 2012, Hurricane Sandy caused over 100 fatalities and $70 billion in damages, severely impacting New York City with 44 lives lost and billions in property damage. While Battery Park City (BPC) was less affected than other areas, it still suffered millions in damages, particularly at Pier A Harbor House, BPC Ball Fields, and Asphalt Green Community Center. To mitigate future risks, the Battery Park City Authority (BPCA) is advancing two interconnected resiliency projects under the Lower Manhattan Coastal Resiliency (LMCR) initiative.
